What services do you offer?
I offer Wedding Photography and Engagement Photography/Couples Portrait Photography.
Are you able to travel?
I cover weddings across the whole of the UK and beyond.
What is the charge for travelling?
There are no additional charges for travel to wedding clients within mainland UK. For travel outside of mainland UK, costs would need to be added to my fees.
What does the wedding service include?
The majority of my collections include an engagement shoot and comprehensive coverage of your wedding day. Not every couple initially thinks they need or want an engagement shoot. However there is a good reason why I usually include it as standard: First it is a chance to create some beautiful images for a signing book or signing frame to have guests embellish at the wedding. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, it is also an opportunity for clients to get comfortable in front of my camera before the big day. The couples also invariably enjoy the fact that we all get to know each other better and feel reassured knowing that photography is safely in hand.
How far in advance should I contact you?
Most couples contact me once they have confirmed their date with their venue. This could be a year in advance or even as little as a few months. I restrict the number of weddings I shoot each year and only advertise in certain places. This means I can often be available at shorter notice than some photographers who might strive to shoot as many weddings as possible. For example I currently still have some limited availability for 2017.
What style of photos do you take?
Like many photographers I began with a fascination in documenting the world around me. However since studying photography at degree level and then Masters, I have become more interested in making rather than just taking pictures. This is not to say that I don't undertake a certain amount of photo-journalism at every wedding, just that sometimes the only way to create the images that both the client and I really want, is to take control of events and produce scenarios with the right photographic opportunities. Of course they might appear to a casual viewer to be caught in a candid moment! Personally I think your wedding images are too important to leave to chance. I also like to get to know my clients and the venue/s and try and reflect something unique about the characters of the people and place. I also always try and ensure that I have made some images that will make my client say Wow, how did he do that or I wasn't expecting that.
Do you use a specific technique or innovative approach?
Having previously worked with a number of Commercial Photographers on advertising shoots in studios and on location, I'm fascinated by the power that manipulating light can have in creating stunning images. Therefore even though modern cameras have come so far in their low light sensitivity, I still enjoy using off-camera portable flash and even portable studio flash on location, which combined with a radio trigger can provide a huge amount of creative freedom. Modern LED lights have also opened up a whole new area of creative opportunities and I have started to employ in my work.
Do you work alone?
I work with an assistant at weddings. I am very careful about selecting my assistants and choose only individuals that I feel will uphold my brand values of professionalism and second-to-none customer service.
Are you fully insured?
I have comprehensive insurance including Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Employers Liability and of course my valuable and very essential equipment. This means that you can rest-assured that even if I should suffer some unfortunate events in the run up to your wedding, you will experience un-interrupted service.
What do you wear when photographing a wedding?
I always need to strike a balance between looking smart enough for the occasion and practicality - it is quite normal for me to end up kneeling down, climbing up step ladders or even lying on a dewy lawn to get the right shot! Usually, I’ll dress in trousers and a shirt with formal shoes and whilst I have photographed weddings that have called for a slightly more casual look, you won’t catch me turning up in a brightly coloured Hawaiian shirt (I have seen this!) unless we’re jetting off to Hawaii and it’s the official dress code, then no problem.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Whilst better equipment does not make a better photographer, I do use the best equipment I can wherever possible. My investment in my core wedding photography kit of Cameras, Lenses and Lighting is in the region of £20k. I'll take two professional Canon full-frame Digital SLR's to each wedding. The professional Canon Lenses I use are renowned for being some of the best in the field and really can make a huge difference to the quality of resulting images, in fact I'd sooner give up my camera bodies for cheaper versions and keep hold of my favourite lenses given an ultimatum!
Do you cover more than one wedding a day?
I never cover more than one wedding in a day. In fact, I choose to usually restrict myself to only one wedding per weekend.
What kind of technology do you use?
I use the latest professional image editing software from Adobe. However my approach to editing is reasonably restrained. Whilst I want every client to look their best, I also want them to look human and as you should be able to see from my work, don't go overboard on skin softening, eye whitening or other techniques that to me at least can ruin an image. Of course if there are any specific blemishes that I client would rather I remove/preserve, I'm happy to take instruction. I also make use of other technologies such as Digital Signing for wedding agreements etc. and this really helps to streamline the experience for clients.
Do you offer any tool to display the photos online?
As with all of the tools and products I have chosen to source, I spent a long time selecting my on-line services. I wanted to ensure they provided the high standard of user experience I would expect for myself and wanted for my clients. My website can provide private client galleries and is a fully functioning and comprehensive platform for viewing and proofing your images and album designs. It also offers easy download and print ordering facilities with secure payment by debit or credit card without leaving my site, in addition to off-line payments made via bank transfer.
How long should I expect to wait for my images?
All images are backed up twice and imported into Adobe Lightroom where they are individually professionally edited and balanced for optimum colour, tone and contrast. Monochrome black and white versions of each image are also produced. The finished mages are then uploaded in high resolution to a clients' personal gallery before sending them the link so that they can see their images for the first time. For every wedding I select images and design a wedding album layout to show clients. Whether or not the collection they have chosen includes an album I feel it is vital for clients to see how well an album can tell the story of the wedding. The proofing feature of my website allows clients to request changes to images or the layout which I'll always respond to as quickly as possible. Fortunately I usually seem able to get much of the image selection and layout right first time and often have to make only minor changes. My previous experience with asking clients to select favourite images from a choice of several hundred and start with a blank canvas is that the current method is much less stressful for the client! For an engagement shoot I will provide a link to edited images no later than 14 working days after the shoot date. For weddings I will provide a link to edited images and album layout no later than 28 working days after the wedding.
What level of investment should I expect to make?
With my focus being on quality rather than the quantity of work, I want clients to choose me because of my passion for what I do, the work I deliver and the premium products I've selected and not so much for price. The amount of client investment varies depending on which one of my Collections is selected but the average is in the region of £1,500. Get in touch now to check my availability for your chosen date and request a pricing guide.
How do I secure my booking?
Once we’ve established I’m available for your date I’d suggest we have a no-obligation meeting (or Skype call if one of us is abroad) to discuss your plans and establish which of my Collections best suits you. I then just need a deposit of 20% and my standard Terms of Business signed, to secure the date. The balance is payable no later than eight weeks before the date of your wedding.
What are the forms of payment?
I can accept payment for products purchased on my website via credit or debit card and bank transfer but require payment for services be made by direct bank transfer, cheque or cash.
